Oppo N1 Launched Officially in Beijing, China

In Beijing, Oppo has made an official announcement about the release of their latest high-end smartphone, the Oppo N1, which comes as the result of the collaboration between the Chinese manufacturer and Cyanogen, a company known for designing Android-based software.
The N1 flagship stands at 170.7 x 82.6 x 9 mm and has a reasonable weight of 213grams (given its size, you can’t really argue about it). The phablet is home for a large, highly responsive 5.9 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that reacts even when using gloves or a pen, has a resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 373 pixels.
The back of the Oppo N1 is quite intriguing, as it features a touch sensitive area below the camera, named O-Touch, which enables you to do custom actions, browse the web and other similar things.
The star of the show is the innovative camera of the Oppo N1.The Chinese have brought to life an interesting concept and added it to their new flagship: a rotating camera which serves as a front-facing camera too, thus playing two roles. The camera sports 13 MP, has a CMOS sensor, an f/2.0 6 element lens and a dual-LED flash, among others.

Nokia Still Working on the Mountain View Android Prototype

After the last week article from the New York Times, in which Nokia was revealed to be working on an Android device(the Mountain View project), as an alternative to their Microsoft running line of Lumia smartphones, now we just found out that Nokia didn’t completely dropped the Android project, even if Microsoft’s acquisition of their mobile business is imminent.
As you probably know, Microsoft is about to buy Nokia’s mobile phone business very soon, yet the Finnish company is still working on an Android smartphone.  This information was leaked by a Chinese website, Weibo, from the CTechnology ‘s account, which has a good reputation in the “leaking” business, because many of their  insider reports from the past proved to be very accurate.

In the Future, Nymi Will Use Your Own Pulse as a Password

A little known company named Bionym just invented a new way to secure your personal data using a wristband called Nymi, a method which could make passwords, credit cards or pin numbers obsolete.
The new identification method is called “pulse passwords” and it uses your heartbeat in order to create a unique bio-password for all your needs. Every person has an unique heart beat rhythm, just like fingerprints are unique, and in the near future our pulse signature will be used to replace passwords, bank cards and even keycards.
Basically, your heart beat pattern is your personal PIN number, which will be used in every imaginable way : to lock/unlock your Android smartphone, your house, your car etc. It may sound like science fiction for the moment, but according to experts, this is the wave of the future. Our data will be secured via biometric means.
Bionym is a Canadian company and they created a wristband, called Nymi, that is perfectly capable to recognize your unique heart beat pattern and to transmit the information further to electronic devices, like an ATM, permitting its user to withdraw money without using a credit card. That’s just an example, obviously.

Android WebView Vulnerability Reported by AVG Expert

The well known web security company AVG recently announced their latest discovery : a critical vulnerability in Android’s WebView that may allow a hacker to install malware on your droid device.
WebView is an essential feature in Android (or iOS for that matter) that enables your apps to display your content from the online resources and also makes it easy for your smart device to perform network requests, like parsing/rendering data.
A security expert from AVG just revealed that Android’s WebView has a critical vulnerability that, if exploited by a hacker, will allow the perpetrator to install malicious programs on your droid or to send SMS etc.
Because WebView works with various API’s in order to interact with online web content, this allows the user to basically view an online application as a part of an Android app.
The malware works by clicking on an infected link that uses a vulnerable app which opens a Java application in your browser or on a webpage.  It is basically a Java vulnerability,  using commands in the JavaScript code and it permits the attacker to install malware on your device or to send SMS, steal your private data and the like.

Google, Facebook and Twitter are “Snooping” Through Private Emails

This is not the first time when big IT corporations are caught red-handed when it comes to privacy. Last year, Microsoft was accused of spying on its customers via its online chat service Skype, this time by a German security company.
Facebook and Twitter refused to comment on the “snooping” issue but they admitted to have complex automated systems which are used to protect us, (of course, spying is  for our own good, always) from hacking and phishing attacks, thank God for that!
A person from Google said plain and simple that the problem doesn’t exist inside the company, it’s not even an issue, it’s business as usual.
One must keep in mind that all these companies are providing you with free of charge services(most of the time anyway) but when you’re using them, they will collect all your private, personal information which is later sold to governments or for commercial interest. This is happening for years now, so be aware.

Liquid S2, the first Smartphone Capable of Recording 4K Video Announced by Acer

The Acer Liquid S2 was announced officially today by the Taiwanese company and it will be presented at IFA 2013. This Android running smartphone stands out from the crowd with its 4k video recording capability, being the first device of this kind.
The 4K means that the Liquid S2 is capable of recording video clips in a massive 3,840 pixels x 2,160  pixels resolution, almost twice the resolution of 1080p HD.
Along with this huge resolution, the Acer Liquid S2 sports a massive 6 inches wide  full HD IPS touch screen and runs on the state of the art Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 system on chip.
The monstrous 6” screen has a native resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, the camera is a 13 Megapixels shooter with a LED flash, ans the processor is a quad core unit clocked at 2.2 GHz; the phone comes  with 2 GB of RAM and only 16 GB of internal memory (this is a little disappointing, you must keep in mind that those 4k video clips are huge in size, almost 25 times bigger than  the current HD ones). The battery has a capacity of  3300 mAh  and the smart phone is 4G LTE compatible. All these are the trademarks of a high end device.

Prototype Picture of the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

Well, when it comes to design, the curtain has been partially pulled, as a developer allowed VentureBeat to take a peek at a Samsung Galaxy Gear prototype (keep in mind that the “real” Galaxy Gear may look a little bit different) but at least it helps us get an idea about it.

The source showed them a video of the watch which was developed by a team that’s working with Samsung, and they took a few stills from it. The pictures reveal a pretty bulky device that has a diagonal of approximately 3 inches and rounded corners. The Galaxy Gear’s OLED display supposedly measures 2.5 inches, having a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, and isn’t the flexible screen that everybody would wish for, unfortunately, but a regular square one that supports a lot of gestures, such as swipe.

If you’re a smartphone user, running on Android, iOS or BlackBerry OS, your private data can be tapped by the NSA at any time.
The German newspaper Der Spiegel published the document which proves that the National Security Agency is perfectly capable of accessing your sensitive data on your smartphone, regardless of your OS or manufacturer. The data includes your contacts list, your SMS traffic and your location information revealed by your GPS tracker.
NSA created special departments to deal with every mobile OS, the final goal being to secretly getting access to your private data stored in your smart device.

Hesperbot

Hesperbot, a new and very effective banking trojan, that targets people who use online banking in order to gain access to their accounts.
The nasty part about this new malware is its design, which is able to circumvent the mobile multi factor authentication systems.
Hesperbot is detected as Win32/Spy.Hesperbot and its source code looks almost identical to Zeus and SpyEye Banking, two very well known trojans.
Until now, Hesperbot infected devices/users located in the UK, the Czech republic, Turkey and Portugal.
This malware is very advanced in its capabilities. It features a key logger, which records everything you’re typing and sends the data to its owner via email/sms. Also, it will capture screenshots from your device and is capable of setting up a remote proxy.

It works also on Android OS.

Lenovo Vibe X

Lenovo also announced their ultra-thin Vibe X smart phone. The Lenovo Vibe X is a very sleek and elegant droid, just 6.9 mm thin, weighing a mere 120 grams and sporting an impressive 5 inches wide touchscreen, with full HD 1080 resolution.
Vibe X is one of the most compact devices you will find on the market and is the successor of the K900, combining high end specs with a reasonable price tag. While the K900 used the snappy Atom processor from Intel, the Vibe X runs on a quad core Mediatek 6589T CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz.
Among other goodies one could expect from a top of the range smartphone, the Vibe comes with 2 GB of RAM,16 GB of internal storage, a 2000 mAh power unit and runs on Android 4.2 JellyBean out of the box. Weird enough, Lenovo failed to add a micro SD card slot for expanding its storage capability, and that’s a pity.

The main selling point of the Vibe X is the 5 inches wide IPS display, a full HD unit with an impressive 441 ppi pixel density, protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

KitKat flavor in Android market

A  great news for all android users  Android 4.4 KitKat, the next iteration of the most popular mobile operating system in the world.

Everybody thought that the next version of the Android OS will be 5.0 Key Lime Pie, there were countless rumors about the issue. But Google surprised us all , when they announced the successor of the JellyBean to be named KitKat, just like that brand of candy bar marketed by Hershey in the United States. Yeah, these guys have an obsession with sweets.

The official nick-name of the new version of the mobile OS was confirmed by Sundar Pichai, the boss of Android and Chrome. Android 4.4 KitKat is named just like Nestle’s KitKat candy bar and if it is half as good as the real Kit Kat, we’re in for a real treat.

Toq, The Smartwatch From Qualcomm

Toq is a touchscreen smartwatch and it’s designed to be used together with an Android running device, like a smartphone or a tablet. One of the main selling points of the Toq smartwatch is its high-tech Mirasol display, Qualcomm’s in house project, a screen which uses a low energy technology, which failed to gain acceptance on a large scale by smartphone manufacturers. At least, until now, Toq hopes to change the trend.

According to reports, the Toq smartwatch will offer up to five days of battery lifetime and that’s great news when compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, which lasts for just one day.
The Toq uses an app from Google Play Store in order to link to a smartphone running on Android 4.0.3 and above. After successfully installed, Toq will allow you to accept calls, play music, read emails and text messages and the like. You can also use wireless headsets with the smartwatch.
Along with the extended battery life, Toq uses a very clever charging method. All you have to do is to put the smartwatch down on its case, and voila. No need for plugs or cables.Another cool thing about Qualcomm’s baby is that it will feature interchangeable watch faces.
